Discussion

Mr. Bird advised the NRC participants at the meeting that he had

requested the meeting to discuss BECo s response to the findings

i

contained in NRC Region I Inspection Report No. 50-293/87-30 that are

documented in BECO's September 26, 1987 letter to the NRC. Additionally,

he advised that his staff would clarify some information provided during

the Enforcement Conference on September 9, 1987 and discuss actions

undertaken to correct the security program at Pilgrim.

An outline of the topics discussed is contained in BECo's September 26,

1987 letter, which is Attachment 1 to this report.

In conclusion, Mr. Bird stated thet the licensee's sensitivity to

security program issues and program improvements has been significantly

heightened and that extensive corrective action programs and equipment

'

upgrades are underway.

{

Mr. Martin thanked the BECo representatives for their presentations and

stated that the NRC's decision with respect to the apparent violations

would be forthcoming.
