SUBJECT:
COMANCHE PEAK STEAM ELECTRIC STATION (CPSES)
DOCKETS NOS. 50-445 AND 50-446 JET IMPINGEMENT ANALYSES Gentlemen:
During the March 21, 1988 meeting with the NRC concerning CPSES jet impingement analyses, TU Electric committed to perform the following:
1.
Provide a description of the methodology that will be used to validate the existing high energy line break jet load calculations.
2.
Update Section 3.6B of the CPSES FSAR to include the revised jet impingement analysis methodology.
TV Electric is performing analyses to validate the high energy jet impingement loads presently being utilized at CPSES.
These analyses are being performed as follows:
1.
All jet loads previously calculated are being reviewed to ascertain whether they are conservative with respect to loads calculated using the methodologies permitted by the ANSI /ANS 58.2 Draft 7 Standard.
For steam, saturated water and subcooled water jets with thermodynamic fluid properties consistent with the range addressed in NUREG 2913, the NUREG 2913 methodology (the alternate methodolgy endorsed by the ANSI /ANS 58.2 Draft 7 Standard) is being utilized for this review.
For jets with fluid properties not consistent with the range addressed in NUREG 2913, the primary methodolgy of the ANSI /ANS 58.2 Draft Standard will be used.
2.
Newly calculated jet loads which are greater than the previously calculated loads (1.2., not conservative with respect to ANSI /ANS 58.2 Draft 7) will be individually assessed for their effect on target response.
