This letter confirms the telephone conversation between E. G. Greenman of this office and you on March 23, 1988, related to your identification of deficiencies in the existing lubricants in motor operated valves at Braidwood Unit 1.
With regard to this matter we understand that you will:
1.
Complete sampling of the lubricant for all Unit 1 and Unit common safety-related Limitorque valve operators.
2.
Complete visual inspection and laboratory analysis for all the samples taken.
3.
For each limitorque found to have either contaminated or mixed grease, l
remove the existing lubricant, clean the operator internals, and lubricate the operator with qualified lubricant, t
It is our understanding that you will make available the results of these activities for our review.
We further understand that startup of Unit I to Modes 2 or 1 will only occur with concurrence of the Regional Administrator or his designee.
Issuance of r
this Confirmatory Action Letter does not preclude the issuance of an order i
requiring implementation of the above comitments.
None of the actions specified herein should be construed to take precedence over actions which you feel necessary to ensure plant and personnel safety.
Please advise us immediately if your understanding differs from that set I
forth above.
