y. b; O O lg Diablo Canyon Site AEC Docket 50-275 Hydrology The site is on the shore of the Pacif1:: Ocean in San Luis Obispo County, near the mouth of Diablo Canyon Creek. The reactor is to be located on a terrace on the left bank of the Creek at a grade altitude of 85 feet above mean sea level. Cooling water is to be obtained from an intake at the ocean south of the reactor and discharged about 1,200 g feet north of the intake. A spit of land extends about 1,000 feet into f the ocean between the intake and discharge points.

The reactor location would not be affected by floods of Diablo

+

Canyon Creek, the only developed drainage nearby. The switchyard,

.i 3 however, is shown as occupying a part of the canyon where it could be j

affected by flooding.

1 There are no reports of ground water develognents in the vicinity M

i of the site. It does not appear that the reactor vould affect fresh- I

water resources of the area.

The analysis of the geology of the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant Site

). . compared with the available literature, and the exploratory trenches h>: at the site vere examined on August 14--15, 1966. The analysis appears 0

to be carefully derived and to present an adequate appraisal of those

c. aspects of the geology which would be pertinent to an engineering I

evaluation of the site.'

There are no identifiable geolcgic structures which could be expected to localize earthquakes in the immediate vicinity of the site.
