SUBJECT: ROUTINE SAFETY INSPECTION REPORT NO. 50-151/97201(DRPM) AND NOTICE

OF VIOLATION

Dear Dr. Jones:

This refers to the inspection conducted on June 23-26, 1997, at the Advanced '

Triga Research Reactor. The purpose of the inspection was to determine

whether activities authorized by the license were conducted safely and in

accordance with NRC recuirements. At the conclusion of the inspection the

findings were discussec with those members of your staff identified in the

enclosed report,

Areas examined during the inspection are identified in the report. Within

these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures

and representative records, interviews with personnel, and observations of

activities in progress.

One violation and two non-cited violations were identified during this

inspection. The violation involved a member of your staff who performed

licensed duties although his licensed had expired.

The violation is cited in the enclosed Notice of Violatic1 (Notice). and the

circumstances surrounding the violation are described in detail in the

enclosed report. The NRC has concluded that information regarding the reason

for the violation, the corrective actions taken and planned to correct the

violation and prevent recurrence is already adequately addressed on the docket

in the attached report. Therefore we do not require that you respond to this

letter unless the description therein does not accurately reflect your

corrective actions or your position on this matter. In that case, or if you

choose to provide additional information, you should follow the instructions

in the enclosed Notice.
