Dear Mr.1Maas:

V In accordance with your application dated February 21, 1997, and supplements cdated March 7 and June 9, 1997, and pursuant to Part 70 of Titic 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations. Special Nuclear Materials License SNM-1227 is hereby amended to increase the authorized batch size of hydrofluoric acid (HF) for release,: decrease the average air velocity through openings in laboratory hoods, and to decrease the calibration frequency for direct-reading dosimeter-pencils.

In addition, certain pages of Part I of the license were revised to.

correct errors or add clarification.

Accordingly. Safety Condition S-1 is modified to. include the dates of February 21, March 7, and June 9, 1997.

In addition, Safety Condition S-2 has been added to your' license and reads:

The licensee shall maintain and execute the response measures in the Emergency Plan. Revision 20, dated January 8, 1996: or as further revised by the licensee consistent with 10 CFR 70.32(I).

All other conditions of the license shall remain the same.

Enclosed are co)ies of the revised Special Nuclear Materials License SNM-1227 and the Safety Evaluation Report, which includes the Categorical Exclusion Determination.
