Letter from Robert E. Martin to David L. Rehn, dated December 5,1994 Gentlemen:

The reference letter stated that the NRC staff had approve (the long-term corrective actions proposed by the Westinghouse Owners Group (WOG) in response to the Rod Control System failure at Salem. The letter also requested that Catawba commit to either implementation of the current order timiag modification and the new current order surveillance test as described in WOG documentation, prior to startup from the next refueling outage that begins later than three months from receipt of the reference letter, or providing an alternative long-term plan and schedule.

Catawba is committed to implementing the long-term corrective actions proposed by the WOG and approved by the NRC. These actions include both the current order timing modification and the new current order surveillance test. The modification will be implemented during the Unit 1 end-of-cycle 8 refueling outage scheduled to begin on February 3,1995 and the Unit 2 end-of-cycle 7 refueling outage scheduled to begin on September 7,1995. The surveillance tests will also be completely implemented during these octages.
