By letter dated July 13, 1995, Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Corporation requested changes to the information reflected in Amendment 43 to Facility Operating License, issued by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) on January 13, 1978, regarding the above subject.

The NRC staff has reviewed your submittal, and, based on its review, finds that responses to the enclosed request for additional information are needed before we can complete our review. This request was discussed with your staff via a telephone conference on July _15, 1997.

1. Please confirm that post-fire safe shutdown can be achieved and maintained for a single fire that simultaneously disables the main control room (MCR) cable vault (cable spreading room) and the battery room. Also confirm that post-fire safe shutdown can be achieved and maintained for a single fire that disables the switch gear rooms.

2. Please verify that the barrier installed between the NCR and the cable vault will be maintained in its current configuration (or proposed i alternative) and describe the plant procedures that will be used to '

control the proposed redesignated barrier (e.g., surveillance / inspection requirements, QA requirements, compensatory measures, maintenance, I etc.).  !

3. Please verify that the redesignated fire barriers will be maintained as fire zone separation barriers and provide the actual (or estimated) fire ratings of the barriers.
