DOCKET NUMBER 50-483 CALLAWAY PLANT RESPONSES TO NRC QUESTIONS ON MSLB SUPERHEAT ANALYSIS
Reference:
ULNRC-1640 dated October 5, 1987 The reference letter responded to NRC Staff questions concerning the main steam line break superheat analysis performed for Callaway.
In the reference letter, the response to question 1 noted that non-Class IE main steamline flow transmitters could be used as alternate indication for verifying steam generator isolation.
These transmitters were mentioned because they would provide direct indication ot steam flow that could assist the plant operators in verifying isolation valve closure.
However, use of these transmitters is not a requirement because the fully qualified, Class IE indicating circuits mentioned in the reference letter, i.e.,
steam generator level and pressure, auxiliary feedwater flow, and reactor coolant temperature, would themselves provide the necessary information to verify steam generator isolation.
If you have additional questions concerning this matter, please contact us.
Very truly yours, k Donald chnell DS/ dis m23883 Bi8"4ha P
