NRC INSPECTION REPORTS 50-373/97009(DRS); 50-374/97009(DRS)
Dear Mr. Subalusky:
This refers to the inspection which concluded on June 13,1997, at your LaSalle Nuclear
Generating Station. The purpose of the inspection was to review the physical security
program.
Overall, the security program was wellimplemented in the areas reviewed. Security force
personnel errors were low in number. The protected area perimeter alarm system was
maintained in an effective condition. However, during this inspection, a concern was
identified regarding the failure to adequately correct deficiencies in a failed portion of the
perimeter lighting system which affected the surveillance system. Specifically, there were
numerous, recurrent problems with perimeter lighting that resulted in a continuing need to
perform compensatory measures during the past three months. The system engineering
group was aware of the lighting problems but corrective actions were not timely.
No violations of NRC requirements were noted in the areas inspected.
Areas examined during this inspection concern a subject matter which is exempt from
disclosure according to Part 73, Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, in accordance with
