SUMMARY

OF THE MEETING BETWEEN THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION AND THE BABC0CK AND WILC0X OWNERS GROUP TO DISCUSS THE REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION RELATING TO THE BABC0CK AND WILC0X REACTOR VESSEL TOPICAL REPORT On June 4, 1997, members of the staff met with the Babcock snd Wilcox Owners Group (BWOG) to discuss generic topical report (GTR) BAW-2261, " Demonstration of the Management of Aging Effects for the Reactor Vessel." The purpose of the meeting war to give the BWOG an opportunity to present their response to the staff's request for additional information (RAI) relating to their followup review of BAW-2251 and their current plans and schedule for submitting the reactor vessel internals report. A list of meeting attendees is provided as Attachment (1), and the meeting handout is provided as Attachment (2).

The BWOG presented their updated response to the staff's RAls relating to BAW-2251 in the form of presentations on the following topics:

Master Integrated Reactor Vessel Surveillance Program as it relates to the staff's RAls 10, 11 and 15 Fluence as it relates to the staff's RAls 1-7 and 12 Fatigue as it relates to the staff's RAIs 8, 9 and 17

Materials as it relates to the staff RAls 13,14 and 16 TLAA issues as it relates to the staff RAIs 18-26 During the presentations, the staff provided some additional clarification as e

to the intent of some of the RAls.

f The BWOG also stated that they intended to submit thef5 final response to the reactor vessel RAls in August of this year, and their last license renewal GTet on reactor vessel internals by the end of this month.

that the staff pursue completing the draft safety evaulstion for the reactor 2-vessel report, BAW-2251, by the end cf 1997 to support the Oconee license renewal application schedule. The staff replied that the final response for the outstanding RAls must be submitted before the staff could assess its ability to meet their request.
