SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-416/97-10

Dear Mr. Hagan:
An NRC inspection was conducted June 2-5,1997, at your Grand Gulf Nuclear Station
reactor facility. The enclosed report presents the scope and results of that inspection. A
followup conversation was held on June 18,1997, to discuss issues regarding the'
reduction of the radiological environmental monitoring program.
Our inspection verified that your liquid and gaseous radioactive waste effluent management
)
program, radiological environmental monitoring program, and meteorological monitoring

program were effectively implemented.

It is our understanding that, during the exit meeting, on June 5,1997, Mr. Coker,

Chemistry Superintendent, stated that Entergy Operations, Inc. would re-instate the fish

media sarnpling at the reduced frequency of annually. Please confirm this regulatory
)
commitment in writing within 30 days of the date of this letter that our understanding of

this commitment is correct. This item is discussed in Section R1.3 in the enclosed
'
inspection report.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter,
its enclosure, and your response will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
