NRC STAFF RESPONSE TO APPLICANTS' MOTION l TO ESTABLISH A HEARING SCHEDULE )

l l

l On November 7,1978, the Staff served its analysis of sites alternative ,

to the Perkins site on the Licensing Board and all parties. On the 1

same day Applicant served its motion to set a schedule. .

In response to Appeal Board and Licensing Board concerns, the Staff will address non-ACRS generic issues as they relate to the Perkins facility at the next hearing session. The Staff analysis of these generic issues and their possible safety implications for the Perkins facility has not yet been completed. Technical members of the Staff are'now working on this matter. Therefore, the Staff feels it is premature at this time to set. a schedule as requested by Applicant.

l 2-1 As the Staff's analysis of non-ACRS generic issues progresses to the l 1

point that its completion time can reasonably be predicted, we will l l

inform the Board and all parties so that an orderly schedule may then be determined, comensurate with adequate notice to, and convenience of, -

the Licensing Board, the parties, and Staff expert witnesses.

Respectfully submitted, _
