the following changes

_ PROPOSED CHANGE: Beforence is made to Section 203 of the license application, T,harging and Volume Control System" and to Drawing 6h6-J-430 which follows page 203:1 of the text. We request author-isation to replace the two latdown orifices presently rated at 25 GPM with orifices rated between 15 and 35 GPM as may be desirable. We also request authorisation to modify the specification of tra no=ia=11y rated 75 GPM orifice to a range of 50 to 75 GPM.

Beasons for Channet Three 1stdown or bleed line orifices were included in the Charging and Volume Control System to permit flexibility in establ4=h4=a the bleed rate from the main coolant system. With flow through one 25 GPM orifice it was envisioned that only one abarging pump would be required to be

.in operation to maintain a feed of water to the main coolant system to halance the flow of water from the systen.

It was expected that the letdown orifices would be subject to wear and erosion and provision was made to make them g  % easily replaceable. Wear has proceeded to the point where it

while we have not as yet experienced 'difficultr with i the 75 GPM orifice, we would like to have the flazihLlity i to change the rating af the orifice within the 50 - 75 GPM l range. .

Scheduling of Change The change will be made during the Core IT - care Y refueling outage tentatively sobeduled for August,1%5.

Safety Considerations: Nn~ouropiniontheproposedchange I does not involve safety considerations not described or l implicit in the license application, as amended to December th,1%3, the date of issuance of Amendment No. 5 to License No. DPR-), and does not affect the accident I analysis set forth in Section h of the license application.

The prom change requires authorization by the Cosmeission j pursuant to paragraph 3.A of the license and Section 50-59 of the 1 Commission's Regulations since it involves a change in the design specifications of the reactor which are set forth in the 31 cense application and incorporated by reference in the Technical Specifications.

(See paragraph B.1 of Appendix A to License No. DPR-3).

Upon authorization of this change by the Corsnission arxi upon completion of the work, new or superseding pages will be submitted as an amendment to the license application. Their incorporation in the license application will bring the document up to date so that it will reflect the actual physical condition of.the plant.
