. Washington DC 20$10 I6 Doar Senator Byrd, I am writing this lotter to express my concern over the issue of nuclear enerr.v, and the role which it plays in our energy 1

program. The fact that the U.S. government's first energy priority is the Liquid Metal Fast Breeder Reactor bespeaks of the sli 6hted  !

J perspective with which our government seems to be viewing the

" energy shortage", and the apparent influence of the n.: clear industr i

which has repeatedly denied the true and obvious lethal character of nuclear reactors. Why are we ceploying a method of generating l electricity which is more expensive than that of conventional !I poweredgenerators,hassomanyrisksinvolved,andnostimportant1h has the potontial to permanently creato largo anornts rf uninhabita't) i land for future generations? Obviously, the answer lies in the billons of dollars that have boon poured into the nuclear industry. !

Why not, instead, grant the needed funds to research into the obvious merits of solar energy to both hones and businessca, there-by alleviating what VEPC0 and APC0 call ' increased demnnd" but in cotuality is nothing but profit fcr a feu and hi-her rates for consumers. 1 I
