i During an NRC inspection conducted on February 22-26, 1988, a violation of NRC requirements was identified.
The violation involved failure to make entries
]
and provide pertinent information in the Pump and Valve Events Log relative to f
the alert status of a containment spray pump.
In accordance with the "General Statement of Policy and Procedure for NRC Enforcement Actions," 10 CFR Part 2, Appendix C (1987), the violation is listed below:
Criterion V of Appendix B to 10_CFR Part 50 re ":res that activities affecting quality shall be prescribed by r..e accomplished in accordance with documented instructions, procedures or drawings of a type appropriate to the circumstances.

Section 4.1.5.6 states, in part, "A narrative log (Pump and Valve Event t
i Log), Attachment IV, will be maintained and entries made when a pump has results in the action or alert range...."
Contrary to the above, entries were not made in the Pump and Valve Event Log with respect to alert range results obtained on March 31 and June 30, 1987, for containment spray pump PEN 01A.

Pursuant to the provisions of 10 CFR 2.201, Wolf Creek Operating Corporation is hereby required to submit to this office within 30 days of the date of the i
letter transmitting this Notice, a written statement or explanation in reply, including for each violation:
(1) the reason for the violation if admitted,
- 2) the corrective steps which have been taken and the results achieved,
- 3) the corrective steps which will be taken to avoid further violations, and
- 4) the date when full compliance will be achieved. Where good cause is shown, j
consideration will be given to extending the response time.
