Dear Mr. Martin:

Thank you for the opportunity for Bill Jones and me to meet with you on December 30, 1987, to discuss the Fort Calhoun Station.

We are very sincere in our desire and efforts to continue to improve the operation of Fort Calhoun Station. We have noted and will follow up on each of the comments and concerns you expressed to assist us in achieving our goals.

Specific items we will act on include:

1.

Inform Regional Administrator on simulator schedule changes.

2.

Inform Regional Admininstrator on progress of Appraisal of the Nuclear Function at OPPD.

Ensure any reportable findings are properly reported.

3.

Review handling of security related FBI information.

4.

Assess quality of Operator Requalification Program.

5.

Ensure that the Appraisal of the Nuclear Function includes an assessment of OPPD's ability to handle technical stress and also an assessment of Health Physics.

6.

Ensure that organizational changes are properly reported and approved before implementation.

Review succession plan for plant manager.

8.

Review contractor procedures for personnel decisions.

9.

Review operations staff work practices.

10.

Consider visits to additional NRC personnel (Washington, D.C.).

11.

Follow up on NRC Chairman's visit to Fort Calhoun Station.

We felt that the exchange of information with you was beneficial and plan to arrange a meeting with you in about six months to review our actions on the above items and other items of interest.
