Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
i In accordance with 10CFR50.55(e), the NRC, Region II, was notified on October 6,1978 that the North Anna Unit 2 Axial Power Distribution Monitor-ing System (APDMS) provided by Westinghouse Electric Corporation contained a non-conservatism capable of causing a maximum error of 1.1% in' the cal-culation of the LOCA peaking factor shape limits.
Vepco and Westinghouse are currently working together to develop a mutual permanent solution to this problem. Since this work has not yet been completed, you should consider this an interim report. The APDMS equipment,is.not;yet operational and thus a short delay of a solution will have no consequences. A final report will be forthcoming subsequent to the completion of our work effort.
