2.2 PURPOSE AND SCOPE These tests were cerformed to determine the characteristics of 1 1/2-Incn Tyce EC-6W and 1-Inch Type EC-2W Richmond Inserts when installec in concrete reoresentative of that useo in tne power block structures at CPSES. The test saecimens were sub-jected to snear, tension, and comoined shear and tension loaoings.

The strenath, ceflections, ana type of deformations crocucea by these loacings were tne cualities to be determined.

S:ecimens 6 througn 9 failed by an abruo:

shearing of the tnrenceo roc.

There'was some deformation of the roc in bending at the shear :ene (ranging for 20* to 45' beno).

U:cer inser: wasner movec frem 1/2 inen to 3/4 inen with some concrete soalling on :ne comoression side of the insert.

Scec-imen 10 failed by stricing :ne threacs between the threaced roc and the insert.

This failure lif ted the uccer insert washer frem the struts, but the insert remainec in place.

5.0 C0tlCLUSIONS These test results show that the performance :30 abilities of the 1 1/2-inen y e EC-sl and :ne 1-inen type EC-2W Richmonc Inserts in snear, ension and ccmoinec shear anc tension exceed the design allowable by a ratio of more tnan 3 to 1.

These c:nclusions are valid for :ne cesign allowa:les snown in 5:ec-ifica icn 2323-55-30, basec :n a scacing of ne Ricnmonc Inserts sucn :na: a full shear cone can deveico.
