Yankee Ato:nic Electric Company 2ATTH: tir. Robert H. Groce Licensing Engineer 20 Turnpike Road Uestboro, flassachusetts 01581 GENTLEMEN:
A RE:
YAliKEE ATOMIC POWER STAT 10H (YAllKEE-ROUE)
On November 29. 1976, the Commission published in the Federal Register, sH (copy enclosed) an amended Section 20.103 of 10 CFR 20, which became effective on Decec:ber 29, 1976 One effect of this revision is that in order to receive credit for limiting the inhalation of airborne 7
radioactive natorial, respiratory protective equipr:ent must be used j ~-
id as stipulated in Regulatory Guide 6.15.
Another requirement of the
'l amended regulation is that licensees authorized to raake allowance for
'j use of respiratory protective equipnent prior to December 29, 1976, r>ust bring the use of their respiratory protective equipwnt into
.i i
confornance with Regulatory Guide 8.15 by December 29, 1977.
h.
j l'
^i i!ccause the respiratory protective progran described in Section 6.12
.I of your facility Technical Specifications differs from that stipulated
'l in Regulatory Guide 8.15, the effect of this change in the regulations H
is to require amendment of your Technical Specifications.
In view of the provisions of Section 6.11 of your Technical Specifications, which recuire conformance with 10 CFR 20, the fact that Section 20.103 no longer requires specific authorization to employ respiratory protective equipnent, and the revocation provisions of subsection 6.12.3, ue conclude that the necessary amendnent to your f0cility's Technical Specifications can be effected by ricrely deleting subsections 6.12.1, 6.12.2, 6.12.3 and Table 6.12.1.
Accordingly, this is to advise you that pursuant to 10 CFR 20.103(c) l' and (f), if you desire to receive credit for use of respiratory protective ecuipment at your facility after December 28, 1977, such use nust be as stipulated in Regulatory Guide 8.15 rather than as specified in your J h.
