Crystal River Unit 3 Docket No. 50-302 Operatirg License No. DPR-72 NUREG 0737, It s III.D.3.4 Ccotrol Rom Habitability Removal of Amonia Detectors

Dear Sir:

y A calculation package was prtpared to evaluate the continued need for the CR-3 Control Cteplex Amonia detectors. 'Ihese th - nts were used !!o determine the maxinum concentrations which would be present in the control rocan in the event of a ccuplete rupturn of an 8500 pound capacity tank located at Crystal River Units 4 and 5.

'Ibe analysis took appropriate credit for the buoyancy. 'Ibe resulting height of the plume rise is a function of wind speed and distance between the source and receptor. In the evaluation, wird speeds were varied from int sec. -

/

7ng/sec. As wind increases, the plume rise is less. However, as the wind speed increases, the gas cloud W nore diffused with resulting icwer gas con ntrations. 'Ibe peak concentration is expected to be beteen 5.1 ng/md 3

and 12.4 ng/m. 'Ibe protective action limit, as given in Regulatory Guide 3

1.78 is 70 ng/m. 'Iberefore, the peak Control Otmplex conmntrations are well within the protective action limits without Corfcrol Otmplex isolation.
