More on Guide tubes 4

Amersham found the first guide tube. Preliminary assessment is that failure is due to excessive wear. Penny saw the the tube and says it is really beat-up, split in places i

and repaired with tape on numerous occassions. The entire end cap apprarently was coming off the guide tube and was taped back on many times. The end of the end cap had failed; it appears very scratched and worn. They don't think a meaningful metalugical analysis can be done. I told her to tell them a good "look" and description of both tubes and end caps is important to us understanding whether this is a significant i

occurence or not. They believe they wiil have the other cap tomorrow. Penny won't be there, but will confirm with them by telephone.
