' Ms. Shirley Jackson Chairman of the Commission .

Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D.C. 20555 REF: Yankee-Rowe Nuclear Facility

Dear Ms. Jackson:

United Government Security Officers of America is an International Union, that represents federal contract security officers nationwide which include the security officers at the Yankee Rowe Nuclear Facility located in Bolton, Massachusetts.

I write to express concern regarding implementing a new policy where the Yankee Rowe security officers would be unarmed. In this day and age where we have extremist groups from militia (anti-government) to terrorist groups, it is hard to believe that a government controlled plant where there is radioactive waste would entertain the idea of unarming security officers. Since the Oklahoma City bombing and the Atlanta bombings, the directives and the mission of security at most federal installations has changed drastically to prevent attacks.

We request your assistance in having the security program at the Yankee Rowe facility re-evaluate any such policy for the safety and well being of the workers and the community.

Sincerely, WW W ames A. Vissar jPresident 9705120303 970501 PDR ADOCK 05000029 F PDR
