Subject: Resident Inspection 50-213/88-02 (January' 13 - February. 29,1988)
This transmits the findings of the routine NRC inspection conducted by Mr.
J. T. Shediosky and Ms. A. A. Asars of the Haddam Neck Plant. These findings have
been discussed with Mr. D. B. Miller of your staff.
No violations were identified during this inspection and no reply to this letter
is required. We observed several areas of strong performance of your staff during

this inspection period. These areas included Radiological Protection during diving
evolutions associated with the Core Support Barrel Thermal Shield repairs, thorough
and comprehensive management review of Plant Information Reports on a daily basis,
and improved controls over security keycard accountability. These observations
are discussed in the enclosed report.
Thank you for your February 9, 1988 letter, as requested by NRC Inspection Report
50-213/87-27, which provided additional information regarding the compromise of
l safety related, environmentally qualified equipment. This matter will be reviewed
during future inspections.
