The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has corr.pleted its SALP Assessment relating to the performance of your Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant and will present its findings at a meeting on March 11, 1988, at 9:30 a.m., at the Northern States Power Prairie Island Training Center, 1660 Wakonade Drive West, Welch, Minnesota. Arrangements for this meeting were made between Mr. Ed Watzl of your staff and J. Hard of Region III on January 21, 1988.

We encourage Northern States Power Company to have appropriate corporate and plant management representation at the meeting to ensure a mutual understanding of the issues and findings being presenteo by the NRC.

While this meeting is considered a presentation and discussion forum between Northern States Power Company and the NRC, the meeting will be opened to any other interested parties as observers. Those persons outside the licensee and NRC staffs should inform the Regional Office of their intent to participate.

We hope this meeting will benefit your organization and provide you with a meaningful characterization of the overall safety performance for the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant.
