Dockets Nos. 50-70 and 70-754 (Address)

Dear Thank you for your (Letter)(Post Card) dated ,

1977 expressing your concerns regarding General Electric Company's (GE)

Vallecitos Nuclear Center in Pleasanton, California. License renewal applications are currently pending before the NRC for both the facility license for the General Electric Test Reactor - (GETR)

(Docket No. 50-70) and GE's Special Nuclear Material (SNM) license j (Docket No.70-754).

We are currently awaiting receipt of additional technical information from GE with respect to both applications. Our evaluation of the i GETR facility license renewal application will specifically include an assessment of the capability of the GETR safety related structures systems and components to withstand the effects of earthquakes at the Vallecitos site. We also will evaluate the potential seismic effects on existing facilities at the Vallecitos Nuclear Center which are being used for headling of SNM.

In the near future, notice will be published in the Federal Register, relative to both renewal actions which will provide an opportunity for any member of the public whose interest may be affected by the proposed actions to request that public hearings or. these matters be held and thei. h: cr she be permitted to parti:,ipate. The procedures to accomplish this will be specified in the notice and are also set forth in the Commission's Rules of Practice contained in Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Chapter I, Part 2.

If no hearing is requested or if, in accordance with our regulations, no request is granted, the action on the application will be taken by the NRC staff on the basis of its independent safety and environmental reviews and evaluations.
