50-553/554 MILESTONE NUMBER: N/A RESPONSIBLE BRANCH: Sid' Miner, LWR-3 As per the requirements outlined in my. August 14, 1978 memo, the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) informed Sandra Wastler on November -

14, 1978 that while excavating the foundation for the Phipps Bend, Unit 2 fuel building they had found a fault. According to-TVA, the reverse fault uncovered in the foundation excavation of the reactor building, Unit 2, lies approximately 106 feet north of the east-west centerline.cf the reactor. Fault #5 trends approximately N450 with an' approximate dip of 840 to the north and an apparent offset of 1 foot or less. The fault extends 65 feet to the west of the east wall and extends eastwardly beyond the excavation and beneath undisturbed high-level Quaternary terrace deposits.

,, g TVA will be submitting a letter report providing a detailed descrip-tion of this reverse fault and discussion of the faults' relationship to the regional geology. The staff will ev7.luate this report and determine if a site visit is necessary.
