" Degraded Core Accident Hydrogen Control Program" 1.0 Introduction 3-This quarterly status report is submitted-to comply with the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (GGNS) Unit 1 Operating License.

This-requirement-specifies that Entergy Operations Inc.-should provide quarterly raports outlining the status _of the ongolag research program to address degraded core hydrogen control requirements.

This report covers the second calendar quarter of 1992,Eending June 30, 1992.

This report normally includes' brief summaries 1of t..y submittals made by Entergy-Operstions, Inc. during the quarter, along with summaries of any meetings between the-NRC Staff and Entergy Operations. _Entergy.

Operations, Inc. is part icipating:in the-Hydrenen Control Owners' Group (HCOG) which is conducting genaric research and analyses _to-

. resolve the degraded core hydrogen control' issue.- Since:the work completed by HCOG psrallels Entergyioperations' program-to resolve this issue, this report also includes summaries of meetings between the HCOG and the NRC. Any meetings summatized in this report do not e

reflect a formal HC00 position with respect to any issue,-but represent Entergy Operations' interpretation of those meetings. -

2.0 Summary of Entergy Operationc ; Inc. =Submittals Entergy Operations made no submittals to the.NRC on the Degraded Core-Accident Hydrogen Control Program during this calendar; quarter of

The Hydrogen Control 0wners' Group-submitted documents HGN-137 and

HGN-138,Ldated. April 29 and 30, 1991,.respectively, in response to NRC concerns.

The issues involved certain criteria :for pressure survivability evaluations, acceptable accident sequence for Hydrogen Generation. Events (HGEs), and theLavailability of containment sprays or unit coolers during an HGE.. In July 1991, the. staff indicated that review of these submittals had been initiated.

5.0 Status of Significant Issues The HCOG still awaits formal acceptance of the submittals referenced in Section 4.0 above so that the Final _ Generic Hydrogen Control Accepted Topical ~ Report may'be issued.

Issuance of the-Topical Report-is necessary to suable each'HCOG cnember to submit"its. plant-specific.
