Dear Mr. Maynard:
An NRC inspection was conducted June 24 27, 1997, at your Wolf Creek Generating
Station reactor facility, with in office inspection continuing until July _8,1997.
Supplemental exits were conducted via telephone on July 8 and August 12,1997, with

your staff. The enclosed report presents the scope and results of that inspection.
The inspection followed up on welding work control issues. Three unresolved items were
identified. The first deals with an apparent falsification of a field welding material
requisition form. The second consists of two examples of unauthorized and undocumented
welding activities. The third pertains to a lack of control over welding material. These
matters are discussed in Section M8.1 of the enclosed inspection report and are
outstanding pending further NRC review.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter
and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR).
