SUBJECT:

SUMMARY

OF MEETING HELD ON MAY 8, 1997, TO DISCUSS GENERAL LICENSING ISSUES On May 8, 1997, NRC staff members met at Rockville, Maryland, with representatives of'The Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company (CEI) to discuss priorities and schedules of licensing issues for the Perry Nuclear Power Plant, Unit I. A list of attendees is included as Enclosure 1. The handout used at the meeting is included as Enclosure 2.

Schedules were reviewed regarding the need= for a licensing decision prior to the refueling outage commencing in September 1997. Additionally, the schedule of June 1,1997, was discussed regarding the proposed indirect transfer of license caused by the planned merger of Centerior Energy Corporation and Ohio Edison Company. The NRC staff stated that they would inform CEI of any schedule delays regarding the proposed indirect transfer, if they occurred.
