.By letters dated April 16, 1993, July 8, 1993, August 4, 1993, February 10, 1994, December 16, 1994, March 29, 1995, September 20, 1995, February 5, 1996, J
. March 21, 1996, July 12,.1996, and January 17, 1997, Commonwealth Edison Company (Comed) responded to Generic Letter (GL) 92-08, "Thermo-Lag 330-1 Fire Barriers," dated December 17, 1992, and follow-up requests for additional information dated May 28, 1993, December 21, 1993, September 19, 1994, December-29,.1994, December 4, 1995, and June'12, 1996, in regard to Thermo-
. Lag 330-1 fire barriers installed at Byron Station, Units 1 and 2.
J The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has reviewed Comed's
-letters. Comed's responses stated that three methods of resolution would be utilized. They were (1) re-analysis of safe shutdown analises to eliminata the need for the fire barrier; (2) re-routing of cabics sucs that redundant safe shutdown trains are not located in the same fire zone; w (3) replacement of the Thermo-Lag 330-1 with a qualified fire barrier.
By letter daisd January 17, 1997, Comed stated that all corrective actions for the resolution 4
of the Thermo-Lag issues had been implemented at Byron. On the Oasis of its review, the staff has determined that Comed has.provided the information requested in GL'92-08 and the actions tracked by TAC Nos. M85528 and M85529 f
are complete.
Based on your February 5,1996, March 21,1996, July 12,1996, and April 4,
-1997, responses,.however, there remain open issues involving ampacity derating i
Lof Thermo-Lag 330-1 whic;. emerged as a result of tha GL 92-08 review.
The 1
resolution of these ampacity derating issues are 'seing treated generically and-tracked by TAC No. M82809.
i Comed should retain.all. documentation related to~the resolution of the concerns with Thermo-Lag 330-1 fire barrier systems for future NRC audits or inspections.
