Dear Mr. and Mrs Miller:
I am responding to your letter of April 10 1997.. regarding the recently adopted City of Santa Fe, New Mexico Wastewater Control Ordinance.
As you may be aware. NRC has relinquished its authority to regulate byproduct material, source material, and small quantities of special nuclear material under the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended, to the State of New Mexico.
Thus, the State has regulatory jurisdiction pertinent to this issue.
We encourage you to work with the State of New Mexico to resolve your concerns.
For this reason, we are referring your letter to the Bureau of Hazardous and Radioactive Materials of the New Mexico Department of Environment.-2044 Galisto Road P.O. Box 26110. Santa Fe, NM 87502.
If you would like to speak with the State directly, they can be reached at 505-827-1564.
Sincerely.
