In a letter dated October 8,1985, the Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Corporation indicated the desirability of installing carpet over the vinyl asbestos tiled control room floor covering.
The staff was concerned that the carpet might represent a significant fire hazard from the standpoint of overall flamability and the potential for smoke production, if, ignited.
The staff has completed its review of your October 8,1985 submittal and clarifying information provided by letter dated November 26, 1985. The staff concludes that thc installation of the carpet will not significantly decrease the level of fire safety in the control room and this deviation is acceptable. A copy of our safety evaluation is enclosed.
