CD&L Carolins Power & Light Company SERIAL: NLS-86-085 MAR 2 81986 Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attention:
Mr. Dan Muller, Director BWR Project Directorate //2 Division of BWR Licensing United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, DC 20555 BRUNSWICK STEAM ELECTRIC PLANT, UNIT NOS.1 AND 2 DOCKET NOS. 50-325 & 50-324/ LICENSE NOS. DPR-71 & DPR-62 MARK I CONTAINMENTS (GENERIC LETTER 83-08)
Dear Mr. Muller:
On December 13,1985, Carolina Power & Light Company (CP&L) responded to your
~
staff's request for additional information, dated November 5,1985, concerning Generic Letter 83-08. Question 2 of that request dealt with the Brunswick wetwell-to-drywell vacuum breaker analysis. Specifically, the Company was to verify that 1.07 was the load factor used in calculating the underpressure. Based on information received from General Electric, CP&L stated that the load factor used in the calculation was 1.07. In a letter dated March 3,1986, General Electric informed the Company that the actual load factor was 1.06. They also stated that the 1.06 load factor yields a conservative prediction of underpressure.
Carolina Power & Light Company regrets any inconvenience this error may have caused. Please refer any questions regarding this matter to Mr. Stephen D. Floyd at (919) 836-6901.
Yours very truly, f
