This letter provides Southern California Edison's (Edison's) 30 day response to Generic Letter (GL) 97-01.

Edison is working with three industry groups (Combustion Engineering Owners Group, Nuclear Energy Institute, and Electric Power Research Institute) in formulating the report requested by GL 97-01.

Edison intends to submit to the NRC by July 30, 1997, a written report relative to the GL 97-01 Requasted Information Items 1 and 2.

If the schedule or the content of the report needs to be revised from that requested in i

GL 97-01 based on research or based on information from industry groups, Edison will inform the NRC in writing.
