Gentlemen:
Enclosed for your review, prior to our scheduled meeting of December 18, 1984,
is the SALP Board Report for Point Beach, Units 1 and 2, covering the period
April 1, 1983 through September 30, 1984.
Regulatory performance at the Point Beach Nuclear Plant was considered to be
acceptable during this assessment period.
Four functional areas were given a
Category 1 rating; this represents an improvement in two of these areas,
Security and Licensing Activities.
The remaining six areas were given a
Category 2 rating, representing a decline in the rating for the area of
Maintenance while the other areas remained the same. We recognize that major
plant modifications were carried out during this rating period.
We were
favorably impressed by the planning and conduct of these modifications.
Based
on the category ratings and recognizing the major modification activities, we
conclude that overall performance improved during this rating period.
While you will have sufficient opportunity to present your comments at the
meeting on December 18, 1984, we also solicit written comments within 30 days
after the meeting to enable us to thoroughly evaluate your comments and
provide you with our conclusions relative to them.
In accordance with Section 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," Part 2,
Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, a copy of this letter and the SALP

Report will be placed in the NRC's Public Document Room.
