NPDES Permit NC0024 92

~

McGuire Nuclear Station Mecklenburg County

Dear Mr. Mitchell:

The Division issued NPDES permit no. NC0024392 to Duke Power Company for their McGuire Nuclear facility on April 18.1995. The Division has reviewed your permit modification request for the subject facility. Specifically, you requested that DOD monitoring be eliminated from outfall 002 and that silver monitoring be eliminated from outfall 003.

5 Pursuant to your request, the BOD 5 monitoring requirement for outfall 002 has been eliminated. The silver monitoring freq'rency for outfall 003 has been reduced from 2/ month to quarterly. Silver is a pollutant of concern and should be monitored for any potential impact on the receiving stream.

Enclosed please find amended effluent limitations pages for outfalls 002 and 003. These pages should be inserted into your permit and the old ones discarded. This permit modification is issued pursuant to the requirements of North Carolina General Statute 143-215.1 and the Memorandum of Agreement between North Carolina and the U. S.

Environmental Protection Agency dated December 6.1983.

Please take notice that this permit is not transferable. Pan II. E.4. addresses the requirements to be followed in case of change in ownership or control of this discharge. This permit does not affect the legal requirement to obtain other permits which may be required by the Division of Water Quality or permits required by the Division of Land Resources. Coastal Area Management Act or any other Federal or Local government permit that may be required.

If you have any questions conceming this permit, please contact Mr. Mark Melutire at telephone number (919) 733-5083, extension 553.

Sincerely, h
