NRC Summary of June 9-10, 1981 Meeting to Review Mechanical Engineering, dated July 6, 1981

Dear Mr. Denton:

In a meeting on June 9-10, 1981 with the NRC's Mechanical Engineering Branch, the SNUPPS applicants agreed to submit a pump and valve test program. This matter was discussed as agenda item #30 in the referenced meeting summary.

Transmitted herewith is the pump and valve test program for Callaway Unit

1. The Wolf Creek pump and valve program will be the same as Callaway Unit 1 except for that portion of the Essential Service Water System which is sita specific. The Wolf Creek pump and valve program will be submitted at a later date.

The program was developed in accordance with the ASME Code Section IX, Subsections IWP and IWV,1977 Edition through the Summer 1978 Addenda.

Attached to the pump and valve program is a supplemental report which identifies the differences between the 1980 Edition and the 1977 Edition through the Summer 1978 Addenda. The program is not affected by the changes in the code and therefore it can be stated that the pump and valve program, as submitted, complies with the 1980 Edition of the ASME Code Section XI, Subsections IWP and IWV. Further, all containment penetrations comply with 10CFR50, Appendix J and all exceptions comply with ANSI N271-1976.

Appendix A identifies the pump relief requests and Appendix B identifies the valve relief requests for those cases where verbatim compliance with the code cannot be achieved. These relief requests are identifed in the remarks column of the pump and valve program.
