Box 4545 Atlanta, GA 30302 Gentlemen: SUBJECT: REPORT NO. 50-424/85-35 During the period July 29, through September 6,1985, the NRC conducted four separate inspections on site in support of the NRC review of your readiness review Module No. 4, Mechanical Equipment and Piping. The NRC inspected activ- ities as authorized by NRC Construction Permit No. CPPR-108 for your Vogtle facility. At the conclusion of the inspection, the findings were discussed with those members of your staff identified in the enclosed inspection report. Areas examined during the inspection are identified in the report. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures and representative records, interviews with personnel', and observation of activities in progress. Within the scope of the inspection, no violations or deviations were identified. Your attention is invited to the unresolved and inspector followup items identi- fied in the inspection report. Due to the nature and number of findings identi- fied by the NRC staff pursuant to these inspection activities, the NRC has been unable to reach a conclusion regarding the acceptability of Module No. 4. On this basis, we request that you review the findings disclosed in the enclosed report and provide a written response to each finding. Sufficient detail should be provided to permit a resolution of each finding as appropriate. To support the timely completion of the NRC review of this module, your response is requested to be received by January 10, 1986.
