Inspection 50-245/85-24; 50-336/85-30 (9/4/85 - 10/28/85)
This routine safety inspection was of operational and supporting activities at
Millstone Units 1 and 2.
Particular attention was directed to the preparations
for and actions during Hurricane Gloria which struck on September 27.
Additionally,
inspection emphasis was placed on the discovery of design deficiencies at both
plants.
It appears that, as set forth in the Notice of Violation enclosed as Appendix A,
one of your activities was not in full compliance with NRC requirements. This
violation is for failure to make reports as required by 10 CFR 50.72 and 50.73.
No reply to this violation is necessary because adequate corrective action has
been taken.
We also wish to note, as an example of good performance on the part of your staff,
the disccvery of a Unit 2 design deficiency through testing of the plant simulator
(Report Detail 4 on report page 9 refers).
