SUMMARY
- V0GTLE FACILITY - DOCKET NOS. 50-424 AND 50-425 This refers to the management meeting conducted at the request of Mr. D. O. Foster, Vice President and General Manager, Vogtle Project, in the NRC Region II Office on August 20, 1985. This meeting was held to brief the NRC on current quality control initiatives with emphasis in the electrical construction area.
It is our opinion that this meeting was beneficial and provided a comprehensive overview of the significant changes that have occurred within the Vogtle Quality Control (QC) Organization in recent months with a view toward improvement of the overall quality control profile in the plant.
It is our opinion that the pro-grams that you have established in the plant to respond to identified concerns will greatly enhance your ability to control overall electrical construction quality. Of particular interest to us were improvements that have been realized since your initial presentation to us on this subject on May 16, 1985. As you reported these include upgrades in quality procedures and checklists, reduction in the number of insignificant deficiencies reported, and favorable trends with respect to the numbers and nature of quality concerns reported.
All of these initiatives will result, we believe, in improved construction quality if sustained in a consistent and focused manner throughout the remaining construction period.
Based on our review of the data presented at this meeting, as well as our consideration of other information on this issue available to us, it is our intention to continue to follow up your progress in this area through our routine inspection program at this time.
In accordance with Section 2.790 of NRC's " Rules of Practice," Part 2, Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, a copy of this letter and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
Should you have any questions concerning these matters, we will be pleased to discuss them.
