Docket Nos. 50-369 aid 20-370

Dear Dr. Grace:

In response to the confirmation of action letter dated October 23, 1985, Item 3, concerning testing of control room ventilation system (VC) testing, Duke has reviewed past test records and the results of this review are presented below. The item stated:

" Review past test records to verify that all prerequisite tests pursuant to ANSI 510-1975 for the control room ventilation system have been conducted.

Advise NRC by October 29, 1985,. of the results of this review."

Past records have been reviewed. All tests identified in ANSI N510-1975 were conducted with two exceptions, the Air Distribution Test Across HEPA Filter Bank, and the Air-Aerosol Mixing Uniformity Test.

The Air Distribution Test Across HEPA Filter Bank, Section 8.3.2 of the standard

.is to ensure that each individual airflow velocity Vi, is within 120% of the average airflow velocity V.

Equation (4) of this section gives the average airflow velocity:

n EiVi

_V=

n The McGuire VC system contains only one HEPA filter, thus n = 1, V = Vi, and the deviation from the average is zero.

Based upon this, Duke Power deemed the test unnecessary.

'The second test not conducted in accordance with ANSI N510-1975 was the Air-Aerosol Mixing Uniformity Test. This test was deemed unnecessary by the con-tractor and Duke Power based upon the updated standard, ANSI /ASME N510-1980 which had been issued prior to system testing. The contractor was Mr. Fred Leckie of Nuclear Containment Systems, Chairman of ANSI N510-1975 and committee member of ANSI N510-1980.

Section 9 of the star. lard concerns the Air-Aerosol P MR mqy, ol s 9A v
