File: 0260/L-860.0 Status of GGNS Unit 2 AECM-85/2-0018 On September 18, 1985, the Mississippi Puilic Service Commission (MPSC) issued an Order Directing Suspension of Constru: tion of Grand Gulf Unit No.

2.

The Order instructed Middle South Energy, It c, (MSE) and Mississippi Power & Light Company (MP&L) to suspend construction of Grand Gulf Unit No.

2 as of the date of the Order and to report to the Commission before the end of the year regarding the future plans for the unit.

As you know, during the last few years, MSE and MP&L, in order to conserve financial resources, have performed only a limited amount of construction on the unit.

In compliance with the September 18, 1985 Order of the MPSC, MSE and MP&L are taking the necessary steps to suspend these limited construction activities. During the next few months, we plan to review the various alternatives available for the unit and make a decision regarding its future. We will continue to keep you apprised of any developments relating to this matter.
