(NRC INSPECTION REPORT NO. 50-325/97-03 AND 50-324/97-03)
Dear Mr. Campbell:
On April 4,1997, the NRC completed an inspection at your Brunswick Nuclear Plant facilities.

The purpose of the inspection was to review engineering activities to support plant
'
operations. The enclosed report presents the results of that inspection.
Based on the results of the inspection, two violations on NRC requirements were identified.
In the area of Operations, one violation was cited for failure to properly evaluate a
nonconforming condition for reportability. In the area of Engineering, one violation was cited
for failure to update the UFSAR to reflect a hardware change in the plant.
These violations are cited in the enclosed Notice of Violation, and the circumstances
surrounding the violations are described in detail in the enclosed report. Please note that
you are required to respond to this letter and should follow the instructions specified in the
enclosed Notice when preparing your response. The NRC will use your response, in part, to
detennine whether further enforcement action is necessary to ensure compliance with
regulatory requirements.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and
its enclosures will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR).
