SUPPLEMENTAL SAFETY' EVALUATION RELATED TO THE IMPLEl1ENTATION OF NCIG-01, REV. 2 " VISUAL WELD ACCEPTANCE CRITERIA FOR STRUCTL'RAL WELDING AT NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS" FOR CLINTON POWER STATION By letter dated July 15, 1985 you submitted at advanced copy of revised Clinton FSAR pages for Section B.3.3.2 and othar affected sections which incorporated the use of the Nuclear Constructicn Issues Group (NCIG)-01, Rev. 2, May 7,1985, " Visual Weld Acceptance Criteria (VWAC) for Structural Welding at Nuclear Plants." Based on discussions with the staff by letter dated August 23, 1985 you submitted a proposed revision to FSAR page (B.3.2) which provided clarifications requested by the staff.

The staff has conpleted its review of your request and detennined the use of the VWAC criteria is acceptable. The results of this review are contained in the enclosed Safety Evaluation. The acceptance criteria are described in the enclosure. Any FSAR revisions required as a result of tne acceptance of these criteria should be incorporated into the next FSAR amendment.

If you have any questions regarding this issue please contact the staff's project manager for your application.
