Reference 1 Letter D10873 from S. E. Scace to J. Grier dated March 6,1997 Millstone Station Notification of Discharaes - Millstone Unit 3 Following-up on our prior oral notifications, Northeast Nuclear Energy Company (NNECO) hereby submits the following written notification of discharges occurring between March 15, 1997 and March 29,1997. These discharges were discussed with you by phone on March 17, j March 24, and March 31,1997.

1. Hydrazine Removal Prior to Discharoe via DSN 001C-2_

NNECO has previously discussed with you protocols for reporting the processing of certain wastewater containing small amounts of hydrazine until no hydrazine above detection limits is observed (Reference 1). On the dates listed below, wastewaters containing small amounts of hydrazine were detected in the High Level Waste Drains Tanks (HLWDT) associated with DSN ,

001C-2. Consistent with the manner in which similar wastewater has been previously handled '

(Reference 1), the wastewaters in the HLWDT were pmcessed through the demineralizers and filters associated with DSN 001C-2 prior to discharge from the Waste Test Tanks. These wastewaters met all permit limits for DSN 001C-2. Further, no hydrazine above detectable limits (<5 ppb) using spectrophotometry was found. The initial concentrations detected, and dates and volumes discharged are provided below.  !
