Dear Mr. McCaffrey:

In response to your letter dated February 20, 1986, enclosed please find copies

of: the LaSalle County Nuclear Power Plant SALP 5 Report; the NRC 10CFR 50.54(f)

letter to Commonwealth Edison Company (CECO), dated November 22, 1986; the CECO

letter and plan submitted to the NRC on February 4, 1986; the CECO February 28,

1986, letter to NRC providing additional information subsequent to the February 18

meeting; and the March 4, 1986 NRC reponse to the CECO letter. You will note that

the February 4, 1986 CECO letter supersedes its December 1985 response. Also, the

Ceco February 28 letter and our March 4 letter crossed in the mail and therefore our

letter was written without having seen the CECO letter.

We do not plan at the present time to conduct any formal public hearings on the

corrective measures being taken to remedy the deficiencies noted in the SALP

Report. However, we do plan to have periodic meetings with the company to

assess their progress in taking corrective actions. We will provide you with

prior notice of such meetings.
