Dear Dr. Grace:

In Carolina Power & Light's (CP&L) letter of January 29, 1985 (Serial BSEP/85-0091), CP&L conveyed that an update report of progress on the resolution of LER 2-83-95 would be transmitted to your office by January 31, 1986.

The accomplishments of the Fire Seal Evaluation Program to date ue:

1. The plant penetration seal verification / survey effort is continuing. The data collected is being used to quantify a penetration seal data base. In addition, verifications / surveys along with other efforts of the project (e.g., survey of vendors and other utilities) are being conducted.
2. A specification for the selection and installation of selected fire barrier penetration seals in conjunction with new fire barrier penetration seal installation detail drawings has been issued.
3. Currently, areas with fire barrier penetration seals which have not yet been qualified have fire watches posted in accordance with technical specifications until qualification of the penetration seal is established.
