Gentlemen:
This refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Messrs. B. H. Little,

C. H. Brown, and R. L. Nelson of this office on June 25 through

September 3, 1985, of activities at Callaway Plant, Unit 1, authorized by NRC
Operating License No. NPF-30 and to the discussion of our findings with
-
Mr. S. E. Miltenberger and others of your staff at the conclusion of the
inspection.
The enclosed copy of our inspection report identifies areas examined during

the inspection. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of a selective
j
examination of procedures and representative records, observations, and
{
interviews with personnel.
During the inspection, certain of your activities appeared to be in violation
of regulatory requirements, as described in the enclosed Appendix.
The
"
inspection showed that the violation was given prompt high level attention
and that action had been taken to correct the violation and prevent recurrence.
(Refer to Paragraph 3. b. of attached inspection report).
Consequently, no
reply to the Notice of Violation is required and we have no further questions
regarding this matter at this time.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of-the Commission's regulations, a copy of this

letter and the enclosure will be placed in the NRC's Public Document Room.
