NRC INTEGRATED INSPECTION REPORT 50-369/97-01 and 50-370/97-01

Dear Mr. Barron:
On February 22, 1997, the NRC completed an inspection at your McGuire 1 & 2
reactor facilities. The enclosed report presents the results of that inspec-
tion.
During the 6-week 3eriod covered by this inspection 3eriod. your conduct of
activities at the icGuire facilities was generally claracterized by safety-
conscious operations sound engineering and maintenance practices and careful
radiological work controls. Appropriate control of pre-outage work activities
such as replacement steam generator preparations and work scaffold erection
were noted during this period as detailed in the report.
However, a violation of NRC requirements was identified for failure to
implement the recuirements of 10 CFR 70.24 regarding criticality accident
response preparecness.
The violation is cited in the enclosed Notice of Violation and the
circumstances surrounding the issues are described in detail in the enclosed
report.
Please note that you are required to respond to this letter and
should follow the instructions specified in the enclosed Notice when preparing
your response. -The NRC will use your response, in part, to determine whether
further enforcement action is necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory
requirements.
